megan on the flybridge of ocean dreaming

Are you passionate about whales?

Want to go whale watching on a regular basis?

Think you can contribute to improving management of our whale watching industry?

If you answered yes to any of these questions you should think about volunteering for Macquarie University and Whale Watching Sydney's research program.

This research program is designed to ensure that the Australian whale watching guidelines are the best in the world.

In collaboration with the Sydney whale watching industry, this project will test the assumptions behind the current whale watching guidelines in Australia and make recommendations to ensure a sustainable industry. Using a combination of observer work and active intervention, we will measure the effect of recreational and commercial vessels on whales as they migration past Sydney.

his project is conducted off the Whale Watching Sydney vessel, Ocean Dreaming, and at various whale watching locations around Sydney.

Whether you want to be out in the ocean with the whales or prefer to keep your feet on dry land, you can help. Follow the link to download our volunteer position descriptions to find out which job is right for you.

All volunteers are asked to dedicate one day per week to the project from mid May to the end of November 2009.
